THE FAMOUS TURFCO COWS!
You can find us near the Princes Highway on the Turfco farm just south of Berry, NSW. Look for us on the western side of highway as you drive through Jaspers Brush and check out what we are up to!
OUR UNOFFICIAL MASCOT
The Turfco Cows have been an unofficial mascot for Turfco since 2010. Over this time they have developed a strong following in the local area and for many travellers passing by.
There are six of them: three cows, two calves and one bull. The Turfco Cows regularly change their appearance and love to celebrate the many events and holidays throughout the year with different displays including Christmas, Easter, Mother’s Day, the popular State of Origin displays and many other community events also throughout the year. Our most notable cows to date have been The Barbie Movie 2023, The 2024 Paris Olympics & NAIDOC Week 2023.
TURFCO’S SCOTT PARKER
Scott Parker is the creative mind behind the different Turfco Cows displays. Scott loves developing different ideas for the cows and appreciates the community reaction that he receives after a new display is unveiled.
Scott has worked at Turfco since day one in 1987. He is our turf harvester, truck driver (turf deliveries), and our resident artist.
THE FIRST TURFCO COW
The concept of the Turfco Cows was formulated in 2010 off the back of an industry function held in Tasmania. Scott was taken by a marketing strategy discussed at the event. The idea comes from Seth Godin’s book “Purple Cow” which explores “the purple cow” theory. In short, the theory states that consumers become bored of seeing the same “brown cows” in marketing over and over. However, a “purple cow” would be remarkable.
Scott took the concept quite literally, buying a cow, painting it purple, & placing it into one of our turf paddocks. And so, the first-ever Turfco Cow was born!
The Cows have been a community entertainer ever since with at least 10-12 cow designs going out every year. Inspiration for designs ranges from community events to national holidays, to local footy rivalry, to Hollywood movies… our Turfco Cows have almost seen it all!
