FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Your questions answered by the turf experts

Yes. Every turf slab & roll we harvest is cut to order the day prior to the scheduled delivery or pickup date. All turf sold is freshly cut within, at the most, 24 hours of delivery/pickup.

All of our turf slabs are approximately 1.25m in length & 0.400m in width. 1 slab = 0.5 square metres (m2).

The thickness of a turf slab is approximately 30-35mm (this is only an approximation and can vary slightly depending on the turf variety & the weather conditions at the time of harvesting).

All of our turf rolls are approximately 1.8m in length & 0.585m in width. 1 roll = 1 square metre (m2).

The thickness of the turf is approximately 30-35mm (this is only an approximation and can vary slightly depending on the turf variety & the weather conditions at the time of harvesting).

At Turfco, we have two different Turf Harvester machines that cut turf in slabs & rolls. These two machines are each located at our different farms in the Berry proximately, so depending on which one of our farms your turf is harvested, your new lawn will arrive in slabs or rolls.

Each 1m2 (1 roll or 2 slabs) of turf can weigh between 15kg-30kg each. A full pallet of turf (50m2) can weigh between 700kg- 1,500kg (1.5 tonne). The weight of turf is out of our control & will vary depending on the weather conditions around the time of harvesting.

Use our Turf Area Calculator on our website. First, break down your yard into smaller shapes.

Use our calculator tool to determine the area (m2) of each shape of your yard. Using this tool, the area of each shape will accumulate to reach a grand total of your lawn areas in square metres (m2) = the total square metres (m2) of turf you need to order.

We always recommend adding a few extra m2 or rounding up by about 5% to accommodate for any odd areas or shapes within your yard.

Yes, we offer small turf pickups (1-30m2) from our farm/office at 17 O’Keeffes Lane, Jaspers Brush NSW 2535 within our office hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30am – 4:30pm.

We cut turf to order, so please allow at least 1-2 days’ ahead of your preferred pickup day.

Keep in mind that our farm pickup process is self-loading so, we’re unable to load your turf into your vehicle for you. You are required to self-load the turf into your vehicle. But we have easily accessible pickup bays where you’re able to park your car beside your turf to then hand-load it into your vehicle.

We also provide free gloves so you can keep your hands clean during this process! For more information on our Turf Pickups, click here

NOTE: If you’re unable to hand-load turf but you’re only after a small amount, we also deliver small quantities of turf to your address. Find out more on our Turf Delivery page.

Our delivery service involves limited contact and the highest care is afforded towards your lawn to ensure the quality of your turf is maintained. We use all-terrain forklifts & push-off pallets so no pallets are left behind.

We always harvest turf the day prior to scheduled orders so not only is your turf delivered, fresh within 24 hours of being cut, but we can load our trucks that same afternoon in preparation for the next day’s deliveries. This means we can then provide our customers with morning & early afternoon deliveries.

Our delivery schedule is organised based on the safest & optimal route. This schedule is finalised the day before your delivery date, after which we send you an email with your estimated 2-hour delivery window for the next day. You’ll also receive a text message on the morning of your delivery with a link to track your driver for a live ETA so you know exactly when your turf will arrive!

Please note that delivery times are always an estimation and can vary due to factors outside of our control.

A Turfco Rigid Truck is 12m long, 3.8m high & 2.5m wide. Our trucks do not go down your driveway. They will park on the street in the safest & closest spot to your address.

Each truck has a tailgate, all-terrain forklift that is used to get our turf pallets off our truck & as close as possible to your prepared site.

NOTE: We offer kerbside delivery. Our forklift will only enter the job area to facilitate unloading at our customer’s own risk & responsibility, and at the absolute discretion of our truck delivery driver.

Please always provide any accessibility specifications and additional delivery instructions when placing your order.

Choosing the right grass for your home can seem overwhelming. With our five versatile turf varieties at Turfco, we have a lawn that’s right for you.

We have a Turf Display Area that’s open to the public to visit within our office hours: Monday to Friday 7:30am – 4:30pm, and after-hours & weekends by appointment.

A new lawn is a big investment and it will make a large difference to your yard, which is why we encourage you to come down to feel, see, and inspect our premium turf varieties on display. Our friendly, expert team is also here to discuss the hard questions & to help decide which turf is right for you.

TIPS when choosing a new lawn: assess your yard & how much sunlight it receives, how you plan to use it & your preferred aesthetic.

With these things in mind, choose at least 3 turf qualities that are most important to you & your yard. Then, make use of our turf filter & comparison guide on our Buy Turf page to assist you in making the right decision.

Each of our five turf varieties is priced at a per square metre (m2) rate. Please visit our Buy Turf page to see the price, qualities, and more helpful information on each of our turf varieties.

When budgeting for a new lawn, it’s important to consider the costs of turf underlay as well. Keep in mind, Turfco does not supply turf underlay, therefore it is not included in our turf pricing.

No. We only grow & sell warm-season turf varieties at Turfco. These grasses can only be grown from vegetative matter, not seed, as they are sterile. The minimal seed heads that are produced by these types of grasses are sterile and, therefore, cannot be used to establish more grass.

On our farm, new turf paddocks must be planted with Stolons or Runners. To do this, mature turf cuts are fed into a Sprig Planting Machine where they are chopped up and periodically distributed into the soil.

Afterwards, a roller is sent across the paddock to further embed these Runners in the soil. The entire area is then irrigated, fertilised and very well cared for over the next few months. The Stolons and Runners eventually grow laterally with a root system establishing down into the soil, which allows the turf to reach full maturity and fill an entire paddock.

It’s at this point the paddock is ready to be harvested and become a lucky customer’s new home lawn!

No, we only grow & sell warm-season grasses at Turfco. They are Sir Walter DNA Certified Buffalo, TifTuf Hybrid Bermuda, Zoysia Australis, Sir Grange Zoysia & Eureka Kikuyu.

These are some of the most common turf varieties found across Australia as they are suited to the hot Australian summers and relatively warm winters.

Warm-season grasses can hold their colour well throughout the warmer months. When the temperatures start to cool, they will lose some of their green colour. However, this discolouration does not mean that the lawn is dying but is simply sitting dormant. Once the temperatures begin to warm up the grass will return to colour.

Unless otherwise agreed upon, we require full payment upfront, at least 2 business days prior to the scheduled delivery or pickup day. We accept Stripe (Credit Card) & Bank Transfer. We do not accept cash.

Yes, we offer a Professional Turf Laying Service. Area preparation is not included so your surface must be prepared before our arrival, if not, we will lay the turf on the existing ground. For more information on the best way to prepare your surface for a new lawn here.

We require photos of the access point and the area to be laid with turf at least 2 days prior to the laying day. Please contact us for further information.

Please note, we do not water the area after laying your turf.

You must lay your turf the same day you receive it or collect it. Turf is a perishable, green-life product that has a very short “shelf life.” It is vital that your turf is laid straight away & not left sitting overnight.

Always water your turf as soon as you have finished laying. Please do not water your turf prior to laying it. Once laid, continue watering your new lawn at least 2-3 times per day until your new lawn is established, after which, you can gradually reduce this watering regime.
