After many successful years and a strong community presence, the Mollymook Golf Club decided for its Beachside Course to undergo a transformation.
The main reason for the course redesign was to improve safety both on and around the course. With 9 holes in a rectangle that is surrounded by houses, roads and pedestrian traffic, issues can arise from time to time. The Club agreed the best way forward was to rebuild every tee and green in the renovation with a whole new irrigation system to compliment the course.
With Beachside Course subject to both full sun and heavily shaded areas, as well as constant high traffic and wear & tear, the Mollymook team were in the market for a turf that could thrive in this setting. Sir Grange Zoysia was the favoured variety for the Mollymook team for both its beauty and heavily researched qualities. The Club wanted a low maintenance grass for the surrounds that looks very impressive hence the Sir Grange Zoysia, while also after a grass that can handle high traffic and repair quickly, so the TifTuf Hybrid Bermuda was an obvious choice. TifTuf was also selected for its fast establishment, ensuring a quick turnaround for the more popular spots that were of high priority in the reopening.
Our Sir Grange Zoysia continues to flourish at the Boongaree Nature Play Park in Berry.
Installed by the Turfco team in early 2023, Sir Grange has proven to be the perfect choice for this Berry hotspot, offering lush, rolling green hills between the pump track.
Sir Grange Zoysia looks fantastic unmown and will save the Shoalhaven City Council money and time in maintenance and upkeep. It requires zero fertiliser and will only need to be whipper-snipped around the edges from time to time if required. Turf is also a great stabiliser, natural coolant & offers a safe barrier around the recreational area, making it the perfect choice for a pump track where safety is paramount.
Shellharbour City Council were looking for alternative options for reducing the maintenance requirements of an existing high-traffic roundabout in the town of Oak Flats. The roundabout is centred right next to the local train station, the police station, and numerous businesses, so it is an important part of the community’s infrastructure.
The roundabout previously had garden beds that required regular site visits for maintenance, around 10 times a year. When works were undertaken it required four traffic controllers at $200 per hour to manage the logistics of undertaking the maintenance while continuing traffic flow. Closing off the streets and diversions or detours were simply not an option due to the importance of the roundabout for nearby services.
After learning about Sir Grange Zoysia with its low input requirements and the benefits of being able to leave the grass left un-mowed, Council decided it was the solution they had been looking for.
Since installation in 2021, Council has only needed to undertake six hours of maintenance over approximately 15 months, with no traffic control measures required.
