# Turf calculator to estimate your lawn area

When it’s time to get quotes for your new lawn, you will need to know how many square metres you require. Use our handy turf calculator to estimate your turf area.

#### Step 1: Sketch

To measure the area of your planned lawn, prepare a sketch including any paths, gardens, pool etc.

#### Step 2: Break up into shapes

Break up the lawn areas into shapes e.g. circle, square, triangle for easier calculations. #### Step 3: Measure each shape

Use a tape measure to record actual dimensions (height and width) for each shape.

#### Step 4: Use turf calculator

Use the turf calculator below to calculate the area of each shape and the grand total of your lawn area in square metres. This gives you the total square metres of turf to order. Add a few extra square metres to your order in case you fall short or need offcuts.

#### Step 5: Order your turf

The total square metres from the calculator is the amount you need to order.  We recommend adding a few extra square metres to your order in case you fall short or need offcuts.

#### Turf roll dimensions

For reference, each roll of turf we supply is equivalent to about 1m2. They measure 1.8m long and 0.585cm wide, with a depth of .25mm to .30mm depending on the grass species chosen.

#### Calculating shape areas manually

If you would like to calculate the area of each shape manually, here are the formulae you will need:

Rectangle

h x w = Area in m2 Triangle

(h x w) / 2 = Area in m2 Circle

π x (d / 2)2 = Area in m2 Semicircle

(π x r2) / 2 = Area in m2
